Gavin Williams of the Cleveland Guardians showcased an impressive performance against the New York Yankees, leading his team to a 3-2 victory. In his outing, Williams pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowing only two runs on three hits while striking out 12 batters. His success was attributed to a new pitch mix, featuring a fastball that averaged 97.1 mph and a newly introduced "filthy" slider, which he threw 31 times, resulting in 11 swings and misses. This slider, along with his other pitches, kept the Yankees' hitters off balance throughout the game. Williams' performance not only marked a significant improvement over his previous starts but also highlighted his potential as a key pitcher for the Guardians moving forward.
