The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has emphasized the need for the restoration of Article 370 and statehood to Jammu and Kashmir as essential steps for achieving peace in the region. This statement was made by CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury during a press conference in Srinagar on June 10, 2024. Yechury criticized the BJP-led central government for undermining the region's autonomy and democratic rights through the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. He argued that the lack of statehood and the continued status as a Union Territory have led to increased unrest and dissatisfaction among the local population. The CPI(M) leader called for immediate action to restore these rights to foster a peaceful and stable environment in Jammu and Kashmir.
