Record broken in Boston Marathon as new, returning champions crowned

History was made Monday at the 129th Boston Marathon, as the women's winner set a new course record.

The 128th Boston Marathon, held on April 15, 2024, saw history being made as both the men's and women's champions set new course records. Kenya's Hellen Obiri defended her title in the women's race, finishing in 2:22:37, while her compatriot, Benson Kipruto, won the men's race in 2:07:27. The event, which started in Hopkinton and concluded in Boston, attracted over 30,000 participants from around the world, celebrating not only athletic achievement but also the spirit of the marathon, which has been a significant event since its inception in 1897.
