Foley Library Set to Redefine Community Learning
Locale: UNITED STATES

FOLEY, Ala. - March 24, 2026 - The city of Foley is on the cusp of unveiling a state-of-the-art public library, poised to redefine learning, recreation, and community interaction for residents of all ages. Construction of the $14.7 million facility is nearly complete, with a grand opening currently scheduled for late May 2026, replacing the existing library which has served the community since 1974.
For decades, the original Foley Public Library has been a cornerstone of the city, but its limited space and outdated facilities have struggled to keep pace with Foley's rapid growth. The new library represents a significant investment in the future of the community, acknowledging the evolving needs of a 21st-century populace. The existing structure, while fondly remembered, simply couldn't accommodate the increasing demand for resources, programs, and collaborative spaces.
Mayor Ralph Holt expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "It's going to be a fantastic amenity for the city. It's something that the citizens of Foley have been wanting for a long time." This sentiment is echoed throughout the community, with anticipation building as the opening date approaches. Beyond simply providing access to books, the new library is designed to be a dynamic hub for innovation and personal growth.
A Space for All Ages & Interests
The expanded facility boasts a modern architectural design and significantly increased square footage, allowing for a diverse range of features and services. One key element is a dedicated Teen Area, designed as a safe and engaging space for young adults. This area will offer resources tailored to their needs, including young adult literature, technology access, and collaborative study spaces. Recognizing the importance of fostering creativity and innovation, a dedicated Makerspace is also included. This space will equip patrons with tools and technology - likely including 3D printers, laser cutters, and various crafting supplies - to bring their ideas to life.
For students and researchers, improved Study Rooms will provide quiet and comfortable environments for focused work. The library also prioritizes early literacy with a newly designed Children's Area, featuring age-appropriate books, interactive learning tools, and programming to encourage a love of reading from a young age. Story times, reading clubs, and other early literacy initiatives are expected to become integral parts of the library's offerings.
More Than Just Books: A Community Hub
Library officials envision the new facility as far more than just a repository of books. It's intended to be a vibrant center for community engagement, hosting workshops, lectures, and events that cater to a wide range of interests. Plans are underway to partner with local organizations and businesses to offer programming on topics such as financial literacy, job skills training, and digital literacy. The library will also likely serve as a key location for community meetings and civic engagement.
"We want the library to be a place where people can connect with each other, learn new things, and contribute to the vitality of our community," said Library Director Susan Miller (in a follow up interview with the Foley Informer). "It's about providing opportunities for lifelong learning and fostering a sense of belonging."
Funding and Future Growth
The project's $14.7 million price tag was financed through a multi-faceted approach, combining city funds, generous grants from state and federal programs focused on library development, and substantial private donations from local citizens and businesses. This collaborative funding model demonstrates the community's strong support for the new library. Future plans include expanding the library's digital resources, offering online learning platforms, and potentially adding outdoor programming spaces.
The Foley Public Library's transformation signals a commitment to investing in the future of the community. It is set to become a landmark destination, offering invaluable resources and opportunities for generations to come. The grand opening promises to be a celebration of learning, innovation, and the power of community.
