Lawmakers in the New Hampshire House voted overwhelmingly Thursday in favor of a bell-to-bell ban on cellphones in schools.

The New Hampshire House of Representatives has passed a bill with a vote of 186-166 that aims to ban the use of cellphones in public school classrooms, with exceptions for emergencies and educational purposes as determined by teachers. The legislation, which now moves to the Senate, seeks to address concerns about distractions and negative impacts on students' mental health and academic performance caused by cellphone use. Proponents of the bill argue that it will help create a better learning environment, while critics believe that schools should have the autonomy to set their own policies regarding cellphone use.
