  • A cannabis legalization bill passed by the New Hampshire House of Representatives is being sidelined by the state Senate.

On May 12, 2023, New Hampshire's House of Representatives voted 272-109 in favor of a bill to legalize recreational cannabis for adults aged 21 and older, marking a significant step towards legalization in the state. The bill, which has been a point of contention for years, would allow adults to possess up to 4 ounces of cannabis and establish a regulated market with a 10% tax on cannabis sales. Despite the strong support in the House, the bill faces an uncertain future in the Senate, where previous attempts at legalization have been blocked. If passed, New Hampshire would become the 24th state to legalize recreational cannabis, joining its New England neighbors.
