  • Liverpool will unveil a new memorial at Anfield to mark the 40th anniversary of the Heysel Stadium disaster where 39 supporters were killed, the Premier League club said on Wednesday.

Liverpool Football Club has announced plans to create a new memorial at Anfield to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Heysel Stadium disaster, which occurred on May 29, 1985, during the European Cup final between Liverpool and Juventus, resulting in the tragic deaths of 39 people, mostly Juventus fans. The new memorial, set to be unveiled on the anniversary date, will replace the existing one and will feature a new design and layout to better honor the victims. The club has worked closely with the families of those who lost their lives, as well as with Juventus and the city of Turin, to ensure the memorial appropriately reflects the gravity of the event. Liverpool's efforts to remember the tragedy also include educational initiatives and ongoing support for the affected families.
