Congress MP and lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi has termed Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar's criticism of the Supreme Court as a matter which "absolutely needed no comment" from the holder of the second-highest constitutional office.

In a recent development, senior advocate and Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi has defended the Supreme Court's use of Article 142 of the Indian Constitution, which grants the court the power to deliver "complete justice" in any case. Singhvi's comments come in response to Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar's critique of the judiciary, particularly regarding the Supreme Court's decision to strike down the National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC) Act. Dhankhar had questioned the judiciary's authority to annul a constitutional amendment passed by Parliament, suggesting it undermined parliamentary sovereignty. Singhvi countered by emphasizing the importance of the separation of powers and the judiciary's role in upholding constitutional values, arguing that Article 142 is a venerable tool that has been judiciously used by the Supreme Court to ensure justice. He also highlighted that the Supreme Court's decisions, including those on the NJAC, are made after thorough deliberation and are essential for maintaining the balance of power in India's democratic framework.
