Carol Ann Taylor, Wichita Educator, Passes Away at 75

Remembering Carol Ann Taylor: A Legacy of Literacy and Community in Wichita

Wichita has lost a dedicated educator and cherished member of the community with the passing of Carol Ann Taylor, age 75, on Wednesday, February 5th, 2026. Mrs. Taylor passed away peacefully at Ascension Via Christi Hospital, leaving behind a legacy built on three decades of teaching and a lifelong commitment to fostering literacy in young minds.

Born Carol Ann Miller on August 29th, 1950, in Dodge City, Kansas, to Paul and Shirley (Doss) Miller, she embodied the values of hard work and dedication instilled in her from a young age. She later married Robert Taylor on December 20th, 1970, also in Dodge City, forging a partnership that lasted over 55 years. Their love story was a quiet, enduring one, known to friends and family for its stability and mutual respect.

For 30 years, Carol Taylor impacted the lives of countless students at Emerson Middle School in Wichita. She wasn't just a teacher; she was a mentor, a motivator, and a champion for her students' success. Former students consistently speak of her patient demeanor, her ability to explain complex concepts in an accessible way, and her genuine care for their individual growth. While details of her specific teaching subjects are currently unavailable, those who knew her emphasize her dedication to fostering a love of reading and writing - skills she believed were fundamental to lifelong learning.

In an era where educational landscapes are constantly shifting, 30 years at one institution speaks volumes about Carol's commitment to Emerson Middle School and the Wichita community. She likely witnessed generations of students pass through her classroom, adapting her teaching methods to meet the evolving needs of each cohort. Her retirement, while well-deserved, undoubtedly left a void in the school and the lives of her colleagues.

Beyond the classroom, Carol's dedication to service extended to supporting local food security. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Central Plains Food Bank at 6200 E. Central Ave., Wichita, KS 67212. This request underscores Carol's concern for the well-being of others and her belief in the importance of community support. The Central Plains Food Bank serves a critical role in addressing food insecurity in the Wichita area, and her family's choice to support them demonstrates her enduring values.

Carol is survived by her husband, Robert; her son, Brian Taylor and his wife, Kim, of Wichita; her daughter, Melissa "Missy" Allen and her husband, Matthew, also of Wichita; and a thriving family of seven grandchildren: Abigail, Dylan, Gavin, Emily, Ethan, Ellie, and Owen. These grandchildren were reportedly a source of immense joy in her life, and she actively participated in their activities and growth. The loss is deeply felt not only by her immediate family but also by the wider Wichita community who benefitted from her years of service.

A memorial service celebrating Carol's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 17th, 2026, at Lakeview Funeral Home, located at 1401 S. Hillside Ave. in Wichita. The service will provide an opportunity for friends, family, and former colleagues to gather and share memories of a life dedicated to education and service. Those wishing to offer condolences can visit lakeviewfuneralhome.com.

Carol Ann Taylor's story is a testament to the power of a single individual to make a lasting impact on their community. Her commitment to literacy, her dedication to her students, and her unwavering support of local organizations will be remembered for years to come. She leaves behind a legacy not just within the walls of Emerson Middle School, but in the hearts and minds of all those whose lives she touched.
