The air crackled with energy this weekend as Jacksonville’s “Count Down” festival roared back to life after a two-year hiatus. Held at Metropolitan Park, the free event drew tens of thousands of music lovers from across Northeast Florida and beyond, offering a diverse lineup spanning genres from country and rock to hip-hop and R&B. More than just a concert series, "Count Down" has become a beloved local tradition, fostering community spirit and providing accessible entertainment for all ages.

This year's festival, presented by VyStar Credit Union, was particularly significant given the challenges of recent years. The previous iteration in 2019 drew an estimated 85,000 attendees, but the pandemic forced its cancellation in 2020 and 2021. Organizers worked tirelessly to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone returning this year, implementing enhanced safety protocols while maintaining the festival’s signature laid-back atmosphere.

The musical lineup was undeniably a major draw. Friday night kicked off with country music star Kane Brown, whose energetic performance had the crowd singing along to hits like "One Thing" and “Heaven.” His set included impressive pyrotechnics and a palpable connection with the audience, setting a high bar for the rest of the weekend. Following Brown, Grammy-nominated rapper Rod Wave took the stage, captivating the crowd with his soulful vocals and introspective lyrics. The evening concluded with a headlining performance by multi-platinum artist Lil Baby, whose infectious beats and charismatic presence kept the energy levels soaring well into the night.

Saturday brought an equally impressive roster of talent. Country music legend Sam Hunt delivered a smooth and polished set, blending contemporary sounds with traditional country influences. He was followed by rock band Fitz and The Tantrums, who injected a dose of vibrant funk and soul into the mix. Closing out Saturday’s festivities was Grammy-winning artist Doja Cat, whose boundary-pushing artistry and captivating stage presence drew thunderous applause. Her performance showcased her versatility as an artist, seamlessly transitioning between genres and delivering a visually stunning show.

Sunday's lineup offered a more diverse range of sounds. Country singer Gabby Barrett brought her powerhouse vocals and relatable lyrics to the stage, followed by rising star Jason Aldean, who delivered a high-octane set filled with fan favorites. The final headliner for Sunday was Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys, whose soulful voice and powerful message resonated deeply with the audience. Her performance was a fitting end to a weekend of incredible music and community celebration.

Beyond the headline acts, "Count Down" also provided a platform for emerging local artists. Several regional bands were given opportunities to showcase their talent on smaller stages throughout the park, contributing to the festival's vibrant atmosphere and supporting the local music scene. This commitment to showcasing homegrown talent is a key element of what makes “Count Down” so special – it’s not just about bringing in big names; it’s about celebrating the entire community.

The festival wasn't solely focused on music, however. A wide variety of food vendors offered everything from classic fair fare to gourmet cuisine, catering to diverse tastes and dietary needs. Numerous craft booths showcased local artisans and businesses, providing attendees with unique shopping opportunities. Family-friendly activities, including a dedicated kids’ zone, ensured that there was something for everyone to enjoy.

The return of "Count Down" signifies more than just the resumption of a popular event; it represents a collective desire for connection and celebration after a period of isolation. The festival served as a reminder of the power of music to unite people and create lasting memories. Organizers expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support from the community, promising an even bigger and better "Count Down" in the years to come. With its diverse lineup, vibrant atmosphere, and commitment to inclusivity, Jacksonville’s “Count Down” festival has firmly cemented its place as a cornerstone of the city's cultural landscape. The success of this year’s event underscores its enduring appeal and reinforces its importance as a cherished local tradition.
