  • The new Discord overlay has a ton of new features like notifications, video calls, and watching your friends' streams without leaving your game. Here's how to use (or disable) all of it.

The new Discord overlay feature enhances the gaming experience by allowing users to access Discord's voice and text chat functionalities directly within their game without needing to switch windows. To use this feature, ensure your game is running in fullscreen or borderless windowed mode, then press the default hotkey Shift + ` (backtick) to toggle the overlay on and off. Within the overlay, you can see who's talking, join voice channels, send messages, and even share your screen or stream your game directly to friends. To customize the overlay, go to User Settings > Overlay, where you can adjust the hotkey, enable or disable the overlay for specific games, and tweak other settings like transparency and positioning. This feature is particularly useful for staying connected with friends and coordinating gameplay without disrupting the immersive gaming experience.
