Netflix's hit new thriller was inspired by real events.

The movie "iHostage," released on September 26, 2023, is inspired by the real-life incident involving Denise Huskins, who was kidnapped from her home in Vallejo, California, in 2015. The film follows the harrowing experience of a woman, portrayed by actress Brooke Butler, who is abducted during a home invasion and subjected to a terrifying ordeal, mirroring Huskins' experience where she was held for 40 hours, sexually assaulted, and then released. Initially, the police and media wrongly suspected that the kidnapping was a hoax, similar to the "Gone Girl" scenario, leading to public scrutiny and disbelief. However, the perpetrator, Matthew Muller, was eventually caught and convicted, vindicating Huskins and her boyfriend Aaron Quinn, who had been suspected of orchestrating the kidnapping. The movie aims to shed light on the traumatic events and the subsequent misjudgment by authorities, drawing from the actual events detailed in Huskins and Quinn's book, "Victim F: From Crime Victims to Suspects to Survivors."
