The Worcester School Committee has appointed Rachel H. Monárrez as the new superintendent of Worcester Public Schools, effective July 1, 2023. Monárrez, who has been serving as the superintendent of Salem Public Schools since 2017, was chosen from a pool of three finalists. Her selection followed a comprehensive search process that included community input and was finalized in a 6-1 vote by the committee. Monárrez expressed her honor and excitement about leading Worcester's schools, emphasizing her commitment to student success and community collaboration. She will succeed Dr. Maureen Binienda, who is retiring after serving as superintendent since 2016.
