The Tripura government has submitted four Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) to the central government, aiming to expand bamboo plantations across the state as a strategy to combat climate change. These projects, valued at Rs 2,000 crore, focus on planting bamboo in various regions including the Dumbur Lake area, the Atharomura hill range, and the Longtharai Valley. The initiative not only seeks to enhance carbon sequestration but also to promote bamboo as a sustainable resource for industries like construction, furniture, and handicrafts, thereby fostering economic growth and environmental conservation. The state's Chief Minister, Manik Saha, has emphasized the dual benefits of this project in terms of environmental protection and economic development.
